I have started this blog to help keep everyone updated on Carrie’s progress in healing from Covid. On Tuesday, August 10th, Carrie was placed on a ventilator with Covid pneumonia. She is 20 weeks pregnant with our son, Jeremiah Allen.

Updates

There’s No Place Like Home

After 34 days in the hospital, including 18 days on the ventilator, Carrie is now home and healing. I can’t tell you how much a relief it is to have Carrie home. Even just two days after she was discharged from the hospital, she is gaining strength and healing at an amazing rate. Of course,… Continue reading

More Than Ready to Go Home

Praises for continual improvement with Carrie. The blood clot in her heart can be dissolved with blood thinners, no surgery is required. The doctors did an MRI of Carrie’s heart yesterday. Up until this point, they weren’t sure if they were actually looking at a blood clot or a heart tumor. But the MRI confirmed… Continue reading

The Long Road Home

Carrie and I have had a wonderful time with each other these last few days. I’ve slowed down posting a bit simply because I’m wholly focusing my attention on Carrie. I’ll keep posting updates every few days or so, especially as she progresses. Carrie is fully back to her normal self today personality-wise. We continue… Continue reading

The First Day of Emotional Healing

Thank you all for praying for us last night. We felt the presence of God with us in ways I had never imagined. Jeremiah Allen was born at 12:21 AM and was immediately welcomed into the arms of God. He was stillborn, having passed before birth. In the few hours after Jeremiah was born, we… Continue reading

The Day I Never Wanted to See

This is the hard blog post to write. As I sit, Carrie is sedated on the bed next to me. She has eclampsia, a condition where the placenta attached to the baby is malfunctioning. It causes high blood pressure in mama and few nutrients to get to the baby. Yesterday (Tuesday) morning, Carrie had a… Continue reading

Success. Carrie is Off the Ventilator.

Carrie’s medical team was successful at getting her off the ventilator and extubated today. She has been on the ventilator for 18 days, having been intubated on August 10th. Today she was far more alert and awake than she was yesterday. It was still clear that she is experiencing some of the residual effects from… Continue reading

So Close Today. Try Again Tomorrow.

Carrie did really good this morning at her attempt to come off the ventilator. I’m so proud of her, but we’re not there quite yet. This morning they took Carrie completely off the ventilator pressure support and allowed her to breathe normally on her own. Her oxygen support was at 40% and her breaths were… Continue reading

Tomorrow is the Day to Come Off the Ventilator

We need our prayer warriors again! Tomorrow is the big day! This afternoon they began taking Carrie off of the sedation meds that she’s been on since they intubated her and put her on a ventilator, 16 days ago. The doctors and nurses believe she is ready. Over the next few hours and overnight, she… Continue reading

Praise Report: Big Improvements Today

Carrie did amazing today. Her kidneys and lungs are improving significantly. Big praise to our big God for healing. Nurse Ashley was Carrie’s nurse today, and I got a great report from her. Carrie’s kidney values continue to improve. They believe that she is past the worst of the kidney issues, and will likely be… Continue reading

Praying for Continued Healing

Prayer warriors, please keep praying. Carrie is getting close – real close to finding her way off the ventilator. Today her ventilator is at 55% oxygen support, and her ventilator pressure support is currently at 10. If she continues to improve, they may test her again to come off the ventilator tomorrow or Thursday. What’s… Continue reading

Gentle Signs of Healing

I admit, it was just a really emotional weekend for me. It was for a lot of my family too. My sister-in-law’s parents have been battling Covid, and her mom lost the battle last night, into the arms of our Heavenly Father. Please keep my brother and his family in prayers, this is a difficult… Continue reading

Riding the Covid Roller Coaster

My visit to see Carrie today still just breaks my heart. She is stable, still with no complications. But she just isn’t improving today the way I’ve seen in the past few days. Her oxygen is fluctuating again, and her ventilator settings had to go back up. I guess the nurses have a name for… Continue reading

Nearly Breathing a Sigh of Relief

Whoa was yesterday emotional. Today has been far more celebratory though. God is answering prayers. On my visit to the hospital today, I was again allowed into Carrie’s room. Nurse Ashley was off today, but Carrie’s nurse was still very good. Carrie roused slightly upon hearing my voice, and she struggled hard to open her… Continue reading

Sneaking in and Holding Hands

Yesterday at my visit to the hospital to see Carrie, I asked Nurse Ashley when she thought Carrie would be past the infectious stage of the disease. I didn’t ask to go into Carrie’s room. The nurse answered that Carrie would be in isolation until she was released from the hospital. That is Covid protocol…. Continue reading

Prayers Answered. Healing Continues.

Carrie and Jeremiah are headed in the right direction. I just came home from the hospital a little while ago. I took a few moments to sit with my thoughts and bask in God’s glory, knowing that He is hearing our prayers. Today when I went to visit, Nurse Ashley told me that they were… Continue reading

Stability, and Deeper Reliance on God

Today was by far, a better day than yesterday. Carrie remains stable today, with some minor fluctuations in oxygen flow. This morning I received a call from her doctor and we discussed some new medications. One he would like to try in particular is Dapsone. It’s a medication that’s long been used to treat leprosy… Continue reading

Quite the Roller Coaster Ride Today

I nearly had a heart attack this morning when the doctor called. He told me that Jeremiah was no longer viable. For a couple hours, I cried, I was angry, I prayed, and then just went numb. I called the nurse to find out what happened. The nurse wasn’t available, but they reassured me she… Continue reading

Sunday Update – Carrie & Jeremiah

I just got home from the hospital from visiting Carrie. She remains stable with not much change from yesterday. At the time I left, they were working on titrating her oxygen down. Her oxygen has fluctuated a bit over the last few days – between 55% and 75%. This has a lot to do with… Continue reading

Update on Carrie for Saturday, August 14th

Today was another day of stability, and still yet some improvements. Her breathing remains stable and her oxygen saturation was excellent today – as high as I’ve seen it yet. Today they attempted to lower her ventilator pressure support from 15 to 10, but Carrie didn’t tolerate that huge change, and they had to go… Continue reading

Day Four: August 13th

Hello friends and family, I have more good news on Carrie today. There was not much that took place today, and I’m so incredibly grateful for that. They have lowered her ventilator settings once again. They are maintaining her at 55% oxygen support, and have reduced her ventilator pressure support from 18 down to 15…. Continue reading

Stable, and Improving Slowly

I will try my best to do daily updates on Carrie. If I miss a day or so, please forgive me. But know this, no news is always good news in this situation. Carrie is stable, and continuing a slow progression forward in healing. Her oxygen supplementation has been lowered to 55% now, down from… Continue reading

Day Two: August 11

Hi Friends and Family, I hope I have been able to reach out to as many of you as possible by phone or text, so please bear with me if I’ve missed giving you updates. If you haven’t heard, Carrie is in the hospital ICU with Covid pneumonia. Yesterday she was placed in a medically… Continue reading

Please Pray. Carrie is on a Ventilator.

Prayer warriors, please keep praying. Carrie is in need of our prayers. Today, her doctors recommended that she be put on a ventilator in a medically induced coma as a precaution for her and our baby. She was having a hard time with anxiety, largely as a reaction to the steroids that she was given… Continue reading
